ABOUT US
The LSESU Central Banking Society (CBS) is the first UK university society that focuses solely on the research and strategy of central banks. The CBS aims to educate and interest members in finding out more about the role of central banks and the consequences of the monetary policy decisions made.
Since it was founded in 2020, CBS has had the opportunity to interview many speakers, including Silvana Tenreyro (External Member of the MPC at Bank of England) and Sir Charles Bean (Former Chief Economist at Bank of England).
In the Lent Term, CBS held the first of its Central Banking Series, the 'Perspectives Across the Atlantic,' with commentary from James Bullard, Dr Gertjan Vlieghe, and Professor Julia Black, where topics discussed included low interest-rate environments and the financial implications of climate change.
Members can also produce and publish research on Medium as part of our Monetary Policy or Economics Research Divisions.
Monetary Policy Research Division: learn about the role of central banks, analyse monetary policy reports, debate on controversial questions and produce independent academically-oriented research.
Economics Research Division: a training programme to introduce the basics of conducting data and macroeconomic research and produce articles on a variety of topics, either as an individual or in a small group, with prior topics ranging from cryptocurrency vs government-issued currency to the Asian Financial Crisis.
To get involved in the Central Banking Society, simply purchase our membership. For any enquiries including collaborations, potential speakers and any one-off postgraduate articles, please contact us at centralbanking@lsesu.org and we will respond as soon as possible.
