The LSESU Hungarian Society, in collaboration with the Hungarian Embassy in London, is proud to welcome astronauts Tibor Kapu and Gyula Cserényi for a moderated discussion at LSE.
Join us for a unique opportunity to meet the people behind Hungary’s return to human spaceflight. During Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), Hungary conducted the highest number of scientific experiments aboard the International Space Station (ISS), demonstrating that the programme is built on real research and scientific achievement.
This event will feature Tibor Kapu, the HUNOR Programme research astronaut, who represented Hungarian research in microgravity, and Gyula Cserényi, the HUNOR Programme trained research astronaut, who supported the mission from the Mission Control Center in Houston during Ax-4.
The discussion will explore what it takes to prepare for human spaceflight, from training and mission readiness to launch, to the execution of scientific experiments in microgravity. The speakers will also reflect on the broader significance of Hungary’s recent mission and what it reveals about the changing nature of space exploration.
Human spaceflight is no longer reserved for major powers. It is increasingly becoming a platform for countries that can turn scientific capability into strategic and research advantage. Hungary’s recent crewed mission reflects this shift, highlighting operational readiness and expertise in designing valuable experiments for orbit.
The Hungarian Astronaut Programme (HUNOR) connects universities, research institutes, and companies to real missions and international partnerships, helping build the foundations for the next generation of Hungarian space science.
Come hear the story firsthand, ask questions, and meet the people behind the mission.
