Could closer ties between the Middle East and South Asia form the basis of a new regional order? Join the LSESU Grimshaw Club for a coffee morning with Mohammed Soliman, Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute and author of "West Asia: A New American Grand Strategy in the Middle East", to explore his argument that these connections are transforming the region’s political and economic geography.
Drawing on his research and advisory work, the discussion will examine whether growing links in trade, investment and technology are translating into shared strategic interests. We will consider cooperation between India, the UAE and Israel alongside the Saudi–Turkish–Pakistani defence partnership, asking whether these relationships can support regional stability or entrench rival camps.
Relations with Iran and the Palestinian question will be central to assessing the prospects for a more integrated order. We will also explore how far regional states can shape that order on their own terms, how their priorities intersect with US–China competition, and what Britain and Europe can contribute.
Coffee's on us! This event was organised by Speaker Officers Abhilasha Achary, Ilona Prysyazhnyuk, Isabel Koh and Vice-President Belle Venize.
