CKK.1.14, London
This session will explore how cities are becoming strategic actors in global governance, using Buenos Aires as a leading example of an urban government shaping international climate and development agendas. The session will highlight the growing role of cities in multilateral diplomacy — including participation in UN-led processes such as the UNFCCC COPs, the SDG Summit, and the Financing for Development Forum (FfD) — as well as their engagement in global networks like C40, UCLG, ICLEI, UCCI, and Mercociudades, and platforms such as the Urban 20 (U20).
Following the presentation, the event will open a dedicated discussion space with LSE students to reflect on the evolving role of local governments in international relations, climate governance, and global urban cooperation. This interactive segment will invite questions and dialogue on how cities can leverage diplomacy, partnerships, and international networks to generate meaningful local impact.
